Hello 2018! New Year, New You

Hello 2018!

It’s a new year and a new chance to begin again! I’ve never really been one to make too many resolutions but I do believe in big dreams & setting your goals & intentions on the regular….so what better time to do it than the beginning of a new year?

For me, 2017 was a year of transition, getting adjusted to city life after a big move from California, sparking excitement in my career again as a designer, blogging more consistently and finding balance between marriage, mom life, friends, family, creative pursuits, time for fun & self-care.

When I first became a mom, I put that front and center and everything seem to fall to the way side including my career & my health. Eventually I just felt depleted & spent, like I had nothing more to give. It took me a long time to realize that this was not helping anyone, was too much of an unbalanced way of living, and took me even longer to get  my life back on track & it’s still a work in progress. While it does seem daunting at times to “try to have it all” & many women feel overwhelmed & pulled in a million directions most of the time, I do feel it’s important to focus your free time and energy on the things that make you feel most happy, alive & inspired, whatever that may be. Take time for yourself to dream, to plan, to love & to get inspired!

My goals for 2018:

Consistency-

Consistency & perseverance in all of my creative & professional endeavors….you cannot accomplish anything without putting in the work on a regular basis & believing in yourself! Sometimes there are so many things I want & need to do that I get so scattered but this year I vow to be more focused, more consistent & just go for it wholeheartedly…Feel the fear but do it anyway…go after your dreams & never give up! Keep going.

Health & Wellness-

While I have always been really into yoga, I never had a consistent practice…But, the past two years ago I joined a gym and started going on a regular basis 3-4 times a week, every week until it just became second nature. They say it takes 30 days to form a habit & I would say that seems about right. I had a hard time committing to the routine at first, as I tend to get bored of routines quickly, but now I’m so grateful that I did! Exercising has done so much for my mood, energy level and sense of well being & I plan to continue this into the new year and even take it up a notch!

Love & Happiness-

Because at the end of the day when all is said & done, this is all that matters…..the love that you have for your friends, family, partners, children & pets….this is what you will hold dear in your heart. With the frenzied pace of life it’s so easy to get caught up and lose sight of what matters most. But now more that ever we all need to show more love & unity & cherish each moment. We need to find as much happiness as we can get…

Happy New Year! Thank you for being on this journey with me…

Xo,

Zoe

FAUX FUR IN THE CITY

rock-paper-sequins_faux-fur-in-the-city_1It’s gotten super chilly here in New York City!

The winter weather is finally here just in time for the holidays, so it seems like the perfect time to bundle up in cute faux fur coats, sweaters & boots. I’m wearing one of my favorite fall pieces, which is this Zara faux fur jacket that I got last year. I love the copper color and also that it’s super cozy and easy to wear.  I’ve been wearing vintage faux fur coats for as long as I can remember, but now there are tons of new versions that you can find in the stores that fit perfectly and are so cute & affordable too.

I love to add pops of color to my winter wardrobe to play against neutral denim & dresses.  I think bright colors always improve my mood especially when it’s cold or a bit dreary outside.

I wore this Vintage cheetah print top with my H & M zipper jeans, Zara faux fur jacket & added my new favorite wine colored booties from Lulu’s. The handbag is from Betsey Johnson & sunglasses are Prada.

It’s a fun & cozy look to pair cute boots with denim and a great coat for stomping around the city. I’m also so happy to be back in New York City ! I hope you have a great holiday….

XO,

Zoe

Berry Chiffon Dress and Vintage Suede Boots for Fall

I was excited to find this purple wine-berry colored chiffon dress at Buffalo Exchange just as I was working on the “Bohemian Deluxe” trend for the blog. It just jumped out at me among all the dresses on the rack because of the gorgeous color, long sleeves & ruffle details that perfectly match the Bohemian Deluxe meets Jimi Hendrix inspired trend for FW16. It was even more of a score to find that it was just my size! Gotta love the thrill of the hunt that is “vintage/ consignment” shopping……I love the dress because it’s a bit feminine and girly but not too too girly when paired with my vintage Marc Jacobs boots & favorite rock n roll bohemian Marisa Mason jewelry. I always like the mix of something feminine with something a little bit edgier & cool and I love styling and reworking my favorite things already in my closet and giving them an update with something new (or vintage)…. Just because fashion trends keeps on changing doesn’t mean you have to let go of all your old favorites. Sometimes you just need a few new pieces to pair with your existing favorites to get excited about a new look….

Dress: Buffalo Exchange

Boots & Clutch: vintage Marc Jacobs

Jewelry: Marisa Mason

Accessories: Urban Outfitters

Sunglasses: Prada

The Look #11- Bohemian Deluxe

The bohemian look gets an update with luxe velvet, rich jewel tone colors and bold floral and paisley prints. Pile it all on together with bold accessories, suede boots and fringe details for a Carnaby Street style meets Jimi Hendrix vibe.

Create your own eclectic look that makes a statement by mixing a floral prints dress with a  velvet jacket or a printed ruffle top with a suede skirt.

THE LOOK: GLAMOROUS. SEXY. CASUAL

You’ll be the ultimate “Foxy Lady” in these luxury bohemian looks for fall.

I just love how the rich colors & fabric textures create an overall feeling of relaxed luxury and bohemian romance. Mix velvet with lace, suede with chiffon & floral prints with floral embroideries for a luxurious yet rebellious fashion statement.

I hope you find some great style inspiration for what to wear this fall!
