THE INSPIRATION #3 ENCHANTED FAIRYTALE

Just starting to enjoy the beginning of summer, sunny days, a little off schedule and just enjoying the moment…but at the same time looking ahead fashion-wise to Fall 2014 and Resort/ Spring 2015! Loving the mood of some of the collections that recently came down the runway, especially the jewel tone colors, prints and textures & just the richness of it all…

some styles and collections remind me of an enchanted forest….like the models came to life from an old fashioned fairytale and landed in the modern world.

Fall is such a fun season! What are you dreaming about wearing this year?

THE ICON #2- Lisa Bonet- The Modern Bohemian

One of my favorite style icons from the 80’s and 90’s was Lisa Bonet who played Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show. A true free spirit, she seemed to wear whatever she felt like & to do whatever she wanted. She was not only beautiful, but also a talented actress and to this day she has a look that can not really be defined in terms of race, age or any other categories. She is a true bohemian who seems to live a sort of gypsy life, dropping in and out of the Hollywood scene at her own will & time.

Her past style both on and off The Cosby Show was original & a true inspiration…..and her present “Earth Mama” look still represents the ultimate “Modern Bohemian”: my Icon #2- Lisa Bonet.

The Inspiration #2: Bohemian Modern

Now that the year is finally coming to a close and things are starting to wind down for the holidays, it’s the perfect time to start dreaming about what you are going to be wearing next spring! I’m loving the new “Modern Bohemian” look that was all over the Resort & Spring 2014 runways….

If you are one of the lucky ones jetting off to somewhere warm and tropical for the holidays, you might want to channel your inner free spirit while packing your suitcase. But, if not, you can still dream about frolicking on the beach or speeding away in your vintage convertible in some of these cute outfits…..

As always, it’s that little bit of contrast that makes any outfit exciting, so combine some glam accessories with your Boho look for a truly modern aesthetic.

THE ICON #1-Debbie Harry: Goddess of Punk

Who was the original icon of Punk? I’m not sure there really was one, since the genre was pretty much male dominated….but as far as a lady-like Punk icon, for me it would have to be Debbie Harry, AKA Blondie. She just had the best look! And she was always so cool, & so glamorous….how Marilyn Monroe might have looked if she had run off & joined a punk band.

When I think about Debbie Harry, I think about the old New York, the crazy, fun, gritty New York that I grew up in. It’s the mixing of grit & glamour & raw rebelliousness that make her so striking even to this day.

Blondie started up in the early 70’s, during a time when Punk in New York was not yet developed and was not yet commercialized. The Punk look at that time was all about creating personal style from scratch and your own real self-expression.

Debbie wore thrift shop clothes in a unique way, creating an edgy punk look mixed with her feminine style. Her two-tone platinum & black hair, bright lipstick & black eyeliner have become a classic Rock n Roll look that still feels modern even today. She is the original goddess of Punk Rock.

The Inspiration #1: The Lady Is A Punk

It still feels like summer here in San Francisco.

The days are warm & sunny which I love, but since I grew up on the east coast in New York City, by the time it’s September or October, I’m always feeling in the mood for true fall & all the cool clothes that go with it.

I’m loving the “Posh Punk” look that’s currently in all the stores and magazines. I’ve always loved a little contrast and a look that combines vintage-modern romance with a bit of a rock ‘n roll edge.

So, it’s kind of perfect that my first style inspiration post for Rock Paper Sequins is a look that I’ve been pretty much rocking since high school.
